Getting High, without Drugs

It is a game, or so they think.
Part of some BDSM rituals involve what they call ‘Breath Play‘ but it comes from long before the BDSM crowd thought of it. Now it is becoming a fad among young children.
And it is killing them.
The CDC counted reports from media and advocacy organizations in the years 1995 through 2007, totaling 82 fatalities of children ages 6 to 19. They did not include deaths in which it was unclear if the death was from the choking game or if it was a suicide. They also did not include deaths that involved autoerotic asphyxiation, which is self-strangulation during masturbation and is said to be mainly done by adult males. (source)
The ‘game‘ is risky. It involves cutting off air to the brain, mainly by strangulation, then releasing the strangle hold, so that the oxygen rushes back to the Brain. This allegedly creates a floating sensation, rush, that gets one into a state of euphoria. The more ‘adult‘ variety as practiced in BDSM Circles, includes masturbation during this strangulation, then release.
The risk is of course not being able to release the hold, thus causing death. It is a serious risk, as people can be mistaken for having committed suicide, when in fact it was an accident, due to this ‘game playing’.
The other side of this, is that many will assume the death is a suicide, and the parents who survive will spent the rest of their lives trying to figure out WHY. It will gnaw at them, eat them away, all for the sake of a kid wanting to get high. That is the tragedy of this ‘game‘, that really isn’t a game, specially when you lose.
