About being Gay and being Proud

Taking The Lead

We are all adults, at least if you are reading this blog you should be one, by age anyhow. Course just because one hits that magic age of ‘majority’ it doesn’t always make the person an adult, or act responsibly. In fact I know a few who age wise are nearly fifty and you’d swear they were just out of diapers.

The issue is simply that we can all contract various illnesses. That is a fact of life.

What isn’t a fact, is that by our actions, we can speed that process up, influence it to the point where we can better our odds of catching something harmful like HIV or Hep C, or other illnesses. Take smoking, many still do, including me, which is just plain stupid. Yet it has taken hold, and the effort to stop is hard, almost impossible for some, yet we rationally know, we need to stop smoking, but we still puff away.

Sex is kind of like that. It truly is addicting, and oh so wonderful, but we fail to take the precautions needed to insure our safety. We ignore the risks of not just catching HIV, but of other dangerous illnesses. We live in our own little world, helped along perhaps by the porn we view. We see hot studs fucking, and no condoms. We see cute twinks swallowing buckets of cum, and think nothing of it.

Yet there is a risk, a huge one.  Not just HIV, but the other scourges that exist in our world, that have been around for eons. Gonorrhea, Syphilis, and others with equally devastating effects if untreated. It is something we should think about it, next time we watch some porn, and you have to wonder too, how safe are those actors? Are they even tested, or do the studios not care enough to insist on that?

Hot Desert Knights, a bareback video studio, is taking the lead in the Adult Industry, but not just testing for HIV, but other STDs that put performer’s at risk. It is a bold step in the Porn Industry (read the press release here) that has opened my eyes a little. I actually am naive enough to have ASSUMED that most performers were routinely tested by the studios they worked for.

I AM WRONG.

And that rather burns me up too, because why aren’t they doing any testing? If you work in any industry, there are safety precautions required. You can’t work on a construction site without steel toed boots, hard hat, so why can you work in a porn studio without being tested or protected from diseases?

We live in a throw away society, and I wonder, because society looks down on those who work in the sex industry, do they consider them merelythrow aways‘?
