Too Much $$$ On AIDS?

01/19/2008 (Health Related)

For those old enough to remember, the fight to get the World Government’s to acknowledge that AIDS wasn’t just a GAY DISEASE, was a true uphill struggle. There are some today who still claim not enough money is being allocated for the treatment of those afflicted with this Illness. Specially in Africa and other poorer nations. So it is a bit of a shock to hear some previous battlers for funding, considering that perhaps it is time to spend less on AIDS.

“If we look at the data objectively, we are spending too much on AIDS,” said Dr. Malcolm Potts, an AIDS expert at the University of California in Berkeley, who once worked with prostitutes on the front lines of the epidemic in Ghana. (source)

There is no doubt, AIDS is not quite the KILLER it once was, but if we redirect our focus, will it return even worse than before? Then too, what about the drive for a cure? I don’t know anymore, but I wonder sometimes if the Drug Companies aren’t merely playing GOD? Do they seriously want to find a cure for ANY ILLNESS?

After all, a cure means their drugs to maintain life with the illness become moot. If people get cured, then their profit line gets less, or they have to find a new illness to get behind. It means Health Insurance Companies lose huge profits from the treatment of illnesses. Kind of makes you wonder, I mean look at the billions spent already on AIDS MEDICINES, and how far off are cures?  Hell look at any other ‘life threatening’ disease, and see the huge cost, and then ask. How come they haven’t found the cure yet?
