Support Your Right To Choose

There are many, even in the adult industry, that are unaware of the constant assault being made on the industry. Whether it is from Governments wishing to control the sale of products, to Politicians using the Adult Industry as a scapegoat for re-election bids, this industry is constantly being assailed. The latest is the re-emergence of the establishment of a top level domain that will be strictly for Adult Rated Websites. It is known as the XXX TLD.
For all the nasty details, or boring as most would call it, you can get it all from ICANN which is the governing body that determines Domain Names and I suppose you could say, is the Marshall of the Internet. It specifies what the proper procedures are for dealing with fraud, with domain squatting, and how ISP’s have to perform in regards to making domains accessible to you, the Internet Surfer. It sets guidelines, but is not an Enforcer per se. Though it can be in rare instances. It is also authorized Globally, and so when it determines a new domain name, it effects all Internet Users.
So what is the problem you ask?
The Problem is that ICANN is weighing a decision on whether or not to create this ‘Adult Only’ domain level. Sort of like the ‘COM’ designation was mostly for commerce, the ‘ORG’ designation for charities and organizations. The ‘XXX’ is to isolate and segregate Adult Only websites, such as this one for example.
My problem with this is the same problem everyone should hold, when it comes to segregation. Now some will call this zoning, but in essence this is segregation because it takes a select group of people, and places them behind a barrier. You can’t be allowed to operate in any other part of the Internet if your content is Adult.
Big Deal you say? Well yes it is.
The concept behind this segregation is one to supposedly protect children from unwanted adult material, such as my stories or pictures of men I find attractive. Whether on a Video Box cover or not, the goal here is to pander to the Religious Groups. By having this new TLD (Top Level Domain) and isolating ALL adult sites behind it, these groups believe children will not accidentally stumble across adult sites. They also believe that it will help to curtail child predators and child pornography sites, because ALL adult sites will be segregated.
You should know that this doesn’t just mean my type of sites, but also sites that show nudity for illustration, such as medical sites. It would include sites dealing with support groups for victims of rape and other sexually related crimes. In short, if it is not suitable for a child, it will be labelled as ADULT and SEGREGATED.
This is very similar to what many White Supremacists proposed with people of color. They didn’t want them in their schools or riding the same buses or using the same water fountains. It required separate schools, buses, seating in public places, and so on. It also provided for an easy mark for those who were bent on other motifs, such as getting all boozed up and going off to harass and hurt those who were perceived different or wrong
XXX TLD is NO DIFFERENT.
Right now until March 9th of this year, the public is allowed to comment on this proposed change to the Internet. It takes maybe 5 minutes to simply write in your objection to this proposal. In doing so, YOU can help perceive your right to determine what sites you visit on line and how. [CLICK HERE TO EMAIL YOUR OPPOSITION]
Why should you do this?
Simple, because if you don’t, your choice of what sites you want to see becomes less. While it increases the cost of business, which will be passed on to YOU as the consumer, it also does nothing to protect one single child. It does not prevent one predator from seeking out victims, nor does it stop one added photograph of child pornography from being made, distributed, or shown.
What it does do is lay open the entire industry to being denied it visibility for YOU to find us. One flick of a switch by Google and all adult sites disappear, if XXX becomes reality. One single law passed by Congress at the will of some CHURCH GROUP and XXX can be eliminated from your options of sites to view.
Is that what you want?
There are other serious concerns as well. To sign up, personal information is kept on file by the company operating this new domain level. As well, this company can set guidelines of what is allowed to be on these sites, and what can’t be shown. So while let us say that a site dealing with 18 year olds is legal now in many states and countries, if this group decides to make it 38, then that is it. Showing sites with men under 38 would be cause to have your site closed down by your ISP.
That is the power they do have. It can happen, and I don’t know but I don’t want someone in some other part of the world to determine what is and what isn’t acceptable for my part of the world. I don’t want some Religious Zealot in Washington DC telling me that I can’t write about issues I feel should be written about. On the extreme side, they could even determine that homosexual sites are not valid.

It only takes a few minutes to drop them an email, stating simply that you find this unacceptable to you, and that you do not support the formation of the XXX TLD. It really is that simple, and the more who do write in, the better are that this segregation tactic will be defeated by ICANN.
The notion that somehow all this will protect children is absurd. Criminals do not follow the laws now, yet this company believes that somehow, they will follow this law. Worse, many agree. Fact is, that in order for even XXX to be totally safe from your computer or those used by children is that filters will STILL NEED TO BE USED. Those filters exist now, and simple installation of the software is all that is needed.
Of course the bottom line is that if parents truly wish to protect their children from pornography, then they need to MONITOR the on-line activities of their children. With XXX the opposite will happen. Parents will have a false sense of security, leaving their children even more exposed, and vulnerable.
Segregation does not work, it never has. I urge all who read this post to use the links below to educate yourself more on this by visiting ICANN and reading the proposal, and to then use the link to EMAIL YOUR OPPOSITION NOW!
