Are We That Stupid?

I have to wonder if mankind, has gotten a severe case of the dumbs these days. I mean look around at all the bullshit and deep down, you have to know that much of what is happening isn’t right, or sane even. The way the Church is acting for example. Consistent over the last few years but think on it. Can it really be the cruel?
Or companies and how they promote their products? Sleeping pills requiring warnings that taking the product might cause drowsiness. Geez, isn’t that what a sleeping pill should do? Yet it seems people take them then go driving or operate heavy machinery. Which begs the question, why are they taking a sleeping pill in the first place?
Now how about Viagra?
While the drug was developed for people who had problems getting it up, it is now also a major recreational drug. That term pisses me off too. It santizes the fact that one is mis-using the drug but that it, the drug, isn’t so bad, because its ‘recreational use’ only, as opposed to what? Taking it for legal reasons? Like when did wrong suddenly become sort of okay?
Many take Viagra when taking other illegal drugs. They take it so they can get a boner while high on Tina or some other narcotic. Makes no sense to me really. I mean are we really this stupid as a society that we need so many different highs instead of the best one of all? The natural high of life? I suppose so, because drug use is on the rise, and with it comes even more disease and death. For me, that just isn’t worth it but hey, now we will have an ad campaign to help clear that up.
(New York City)Â An AIDS organization is launching an advertising campaign that says Pfizer Inc.’s marketing of Viagra encourages recreational use of the drug, which fosters the spread of sexually transmitted diseases, including HIV. (see Story)
What makes me shake my head is that we are supposed to be educated people. Like to begin with why is it we can’t see beyond the media hype that Madison Avenue throws at us? The singing and dancing people in some of those Viagra ads, the bleebed out language in another, is going to make anyone buy that stuff? Sure doesn’t for me, and while I don’t suffer from EDS, it is comforting to know there is help for it. So why then is it so popular? Are there that many who suffer, or is it that doctors make more money with each prescription?
If this group wants to seriously put a dent in the Viagra misuse, then how about attacking the one’s who push it? No, not the manufacturer, but the idiot physician who writes out the prescription for no reason than the guy complains he can’t get a decent erection. Attack the real villian and let medicine remain for those who need it.
