Gay All The Time

About being Gay and being Proud

More Than Abstinence

It is a great mantra of the religious zealots in power the world over, that to control sexually transmitted disease and that ‘gay disease’ abstinence is the solution. Even the Roman Catholic Church in its outreach declaration to Gays (see Gay PersuasionsReaching Out To Gays“) recommends not only that Gays not advertise their homosexuality, but that being Gay itself isn’t a sin, its the having gay sex that is the sin.

By following this more ‘fairy tale’ approach, the result will simply be that AIDS will be ranked the 3rd highest killer of humans globally within a short time. Well basically over the next 25 years or so.

(London)  Within the next 25 years, AIDS is expected to join heart disease and stroke as the top three causes of death worldwide according to a new study. (full story)

It is sad to think that while AIDS rises in the world, death tolls rise, that we are seemingly immune to this appalling tragedy. I mean it just seems today that we have forgotten the horror this disease created when it was basically unknown. When it was literally a death sentance and not sustainable through medications. Then it was a simple matter of stocking up on condoms and such, but today, its bareback movies and bareback cam shows and white parties.

It is almost as if because of the advances in science, AIDS and HIV no longer holds any fear among many in our society today. Of course part of that is also due to the lack of real education on this so called ‘Gay Disease’ by many of these alleged Conservative leaders. Yes, that includes people like George Bush, Stephen Harper, Tony Blair and Pope Benedict. It is like while they might disagree with our lifestyle, it isn’t for them to consign us to death because they won’t see the reality of todays world.

To not advocate safe sex and safe sex practises, these so called leaders prevent valuable information from reaching all people. They instead create a false sense of security among many by sticking to archaic philosophies, such as abstinence. In today’s world, to ignore what science says of hormones and teenagers is just plain ludicrous. It is also dangerous.

“We need a menu of strategies for real people,” he said, adding condom distribution as well as new methods, such as a vaccine, are needed. (full story)

You may say, so what, 25 years is a long time. Uh huh, and you know what, that means some kid of 16 today stands a greater risk of contracting this illness when he is only 41. Twenty Five years is not a long time, and it would seem to me that I’d much rather shoot for having AIDS not make the top 10, let alone the top 3 of killers.

How about you?
